Saturday: Three Stories

First story

I will have to check the internal section of my company. It is not an easy task because it seemed that many people kind of neglect the human resources section, which Jack Welch have emphasized, it is similar to the heart of the company. My supervisor have troubling some of my workers and it is something hard to swallow. I have asked everyone on their opinions, and everything goes back to my supervisor... I hope he will change his character after the talk that I am going to have with him.

Second story

I am looking at some external problems, like debts of my customers. I hope that I can collect them back by the end of this month.

Third story

Been very tired of whining... what is the most possible way of taking care of it?

Heavy Rain

Wow, I thought we will never have this kind of rain again, but it is terrible. Heavy rain in Malaysia is so unpredictable anymore compared to 15 years ago. You will know when the rain is coming, and when it is not. It is like the monsoon season. It is what we called man caused phenomenon? I think it is. The truth: Human pollute the world.. and we should have nothing to hide.

The movie: Train Man or Densha Otoko

This is the basically the movie's commentary by Sanjuro:

To put it simply, the 2005 romantic comedy Train Man is a fairy tale for geeks. As derisive as that comment may sound, it's not really meant as a criticism, just a factual description. Supposedly based on a true story, Train Man (a.k.a. Densha Otoko) centers on a twenty-two year old manga enthusiast known only by the online handle "Train Man" (Takayuki Yamada). Unlucky in love for his entire life, Train Man has consoled himself to the fact that he probably won't be getting a girlfriend anytime this millennium, so he decides to embrace his nerdy fate and spend his free time prowling for toys in Akihabara.
One evening, our hero's prospects for romance begin to change when he spots a lovely woman (Miki Nakatani) being harassed by a drunken commuter. In a moment of awkward heroism, Train Man intervenes on her behalf. Although he's certainly no Superman, he does delay the drunkard long enough for security to show up. Later, to Train Man's complete surprise, the woman asks for his address so she can properly thank him for his good deed. So energized by this encounter is Train Man that he posts his story on a message board, an act which eventually earns him a faithful, albeit anonymous readership. Little does he know, however, that his story has only just begun.
Things pick up quickly when Train Man receives a set of expensive Hermes teacups in the mail. The sender? You guessed it - the woman on the train. Both ecstatic and highly confused by this surprising turn of events, Train Man turns to his online pals for help, who post back bits of advice on what his next move should be. After much debate, he finally summons up the courage to call her, and amazingly, she agrees to meet him for dinner. But in preparing for his first ever real date with a woman, Train Man smartly makes a few cosmetic adjustments on the advisement of his online peers. It isn't long before he gets a stylish haircut, purchases some designer threads, and doffs his glasses in favor of some contact lenses. The transformation from geek to chic is surprisingly fast, but no matter what he looks like, it's clear that Train Man is still a socially-inept otaku, as his jitteriness and all-around dorkiness in the presence of the woman he dubs "Hermes" is strikingly apparent. Still, Train Man begins to make progress with Hermes, but unfortunately, his deep-seated insecurities just might mess the whole thing up. It's clearly time for Train Man to grow up, but will he do it in time?
On its premise alone, Train Man is essentially a G-rated version of The 40-Year-Old-Virgin culturally suited to fit Japanese tastes. While both films maintain an underlying message that love is more important than lust, the main character in Train Man seems to operate in a world where sex isn't even something that would cross his mind, a factor which greatly contributes to the fairytale quality of the film. And while technology, particularly computers, is crucial to the plot, Train Man is, at its core, an old-fashioned romance about finding one's true love. Some may balk at the simplicity of the story, but in some ways, that's part of the charm.
As far as performances go, Takayuki Yamada makes for a fine Train Man, particularly once the She's All That-style makeover takes place. It's easy to act nerdy when the character is dressed to the nines in Akihabara geek wear, but once he makes the transformation into a more presentable stud, it would be easy for an actor to slip out of the required geekiness necessary for his performance. However, that's not the case with Yamada; the incongruity between what Train Man looks like post-makeover versus his actual behavior helps give this geek fantasy some semblance of realism. No matter how polished Train Man looks, he's still an otaku at heart.
Also carrying the film along with Yamada is Miki Nakatani, who has the unenviable task of making her character's interest in Train Man seem believable. As likeable as Train Man is as a character is, his appeal seems somewhat elusive. Yes, he's a nice guy, but he's also annoyingly skittish, and as the finale proves, a bit of a crybaby to boot. However, the "crying" scene does make for a funny reversal of expectations as Hermes must console the weeping Train Man with several comical "there, there" reassurances. And while the believability of a relationship between Hermes and Train Man is precarious at best, it would be completely unbelievable if not for Nakatani's performance. She is able to project an inner life, if not an entire past history with men for her character that is not in the script, which gives some indication of why she values Train Man so much.
One of the more interesting aspects of the film is how it focuses not only on Train Man's mission, but also on his ability to touch the lives of his readership. Among his online supporters, there's a young shut-in, a nurse who seems to be recovering from a failed relationship, three overgrown otakus who've had worse luck in life than Train Man, and a husband and wife who don't realize they're posting on the same board. As each of these characters participate in Train Man's strange coming-of-age story, his amazing strides with Hermes opens their eyes to what's missing in their own lives, showing them that if he can get a girlfriend, then just about anything is possible. Although, these "sidestories" could probably be developed even better in a television drama, the small glimmers of their lives given in Train Man are a welcome presence and enhance the main storyline immensely.
After all is said and done, Train Man is more or less just a fun little underdog story, thanks in large part to the likeable performances from its cast members. Sure, things are a bit too chaste and simplistic considering the situation, but in some ways, that's part of the appeal. Unlike the protagonist, the film Train Man may not dramatically change your life, but in its all-too-true rendering of the anxieties of dating, on some level it's sure to speak to everyone's inner geek. (Sanjuro 2006)

In conclusion, it is a pretty good movie and funny too, giving hopes to all the nerds and geeks of the world... I found it is a rare case...however, maybe sometime a little bit of courtesy can bring happiness to people especially for those people who taking trains to work.

Are we rude?

"Taken from The Star, March 12, 2007

Survey: KL Courtesy level has risen

THE nation’s capital has redeemed itself in terms of courtesy level after a shocking readers' poll last year by Reader’s Digest which labelled Kuala Lumpur as the third rudest city in the world, Kosmo! reported.

The latest survey conducted by Canadian-based international rating agency Aneki.com found that Kuala Lumpur was the 33rd most polite city in the world.

New York topped the list, followed closely by Zurich and Toronto. The first of its kind, the study involved 35 cities and was done in collaboration with the United Nations and the US Central Intelligence Agency.

However, the capitals of several Malaysia neighbours fared better.

Manila stood at 22nd place while Bangkok was placed 25th, followed by Jakarta, Indonesia (27th) and Singapore (31st). Kuala Lumpur, however, beat Bucharest and Mumbai.

The Reader’s Digest’s controversial poll last year was based on simple basic manners such as opening the door for others, picking up items which have been accidentally dropped by people and smiling when serving customers. "

From the argument that I have with my friend, is 'YES'. She emphasized that she met with these rude people daily. I have another friend, who happened to be an air stewardess beg to differ. So, both of them have a good point. I have to agree and to disagree at the same time. This is because how many Malaysian guys open door for their gals? Second question is, do we evaluate Malaysian from this few criterias? The reason is we may evaluate them based on other's people cilture and not our cultures.

Lazy Sunday

I decided to let myself have a real Sunday for one time yesterday. Where basically I am not productive at all. I was watching three movies yesterday which were Ghost Rider (tried to watch it three times, but there were some technical problem), 300 and also Daddy Long Leg (Korean Version). Ghost Rider is a 'okay' movie, if you like comic character such as Spiderman or Superman. Alot of special effects and the action is actually a bit lacking. 300, well, the story have swayed a bit from the historical site, but it is still like the Gladiator story met with Sin City. Daddy Long Leg is a perfect story for Valentine day.

I also do some shopping for kitchen utensils such as a grill that was used by Japanese on the gas stove, something for the oven, and etc. Later, I did some cooking for the whole day. I was grilling the fish and also make myself some salad. Yes, I do eat vegetable. I have some sea bass, so I cook it by marinating it with citrus juice, soy sauce, white pepper, paprika, basil leaves, and etc, then I basically smoke it with tea leaves. It is pretty tasty.

That's basically my Sunday for yesterday.

Wow, feel very sleepy today, don't know why... Although I already have a cup of espresso this morning.

It is going to be a hectic Friday because I will have to work on some projects later which required alot of calculation and I meant alot of calculations. However, I hope that this project will be fruitful compared to the last calculation.

Well, this Sunday will be a bit busy because I wanted to finish up some delayed job since last January, yes, it has been that long. I have to finish these things before it bites back.

Anywhere, I will tried to update this blog everyday. I will not be a lazy bear anymore.

What is Zen and what is Mindfulness?

Zen, the Sanskrit word for meditation, is a discipline. The purpose is to clear the mind of the chaos of everyday life in order to achieve a greater state of harmony. Following are some Zen Sayings you can use as an exercise in Mindfulness...

In walking, just walk. In sitting, just sit. Above all, don't wobble.

When the day gets long and contentious, I hold fast to my breath as a tiller and take each wave as it comes.

Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought. Zen is your everyday thought.

The bird of paradise alights only on the hand that does not grasp.

The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.

To find your way, you must close your eyes and walk in the dark.

Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment.

The way is not difficult to discern. Seek it within.

Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes and the grass grows by itself.

Everything the same; everything distinct.

Oolong Tea

Got this from Mr. Lim's blog

OOLONG TEA……

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of Oolong tea…You will never look at a cup of Oolong the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed Oolong tea. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

Then she ladled the Oolong out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, “Tell me what you see.”

“Carrots, eggs, and Oolong tea,” she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the Oolong. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma The daughter then asked, “What does it mean, mother?”

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The Oolong tea was unique, however. After they were in the boiling water , they had changed the water color and taste.

“Which are you?” she asked her daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a Oolong tea?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the Oolong tea? The tea actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the tea, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a Oolong tea?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can’t go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.

Live your life so at the end, you’re the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

You might want to send this message to those people who mean something to you; to those who have touched your life in one way or another; to those who make you smile when you really need it; to those who make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down; to those whose friendship you appreciate; to those who are so meaningful in your life.

If you don’t send it, you will just miss out on the opportunity to
brighten someone’s day with this message!

May we all be OOLONG TEA !!!!!!!!!

The stupid bear

Two more days mark the day of the 9th anniversary of my first puppy love... I am not naming anyone here... I know someone will kick my butt for writing this article. But,what is puppy love? According to Wikipedia:

"Puppy love is an informal term for feelings of love, particularly between young people during adolescence, so-called for its resemblance to the affection that may be felt towards a puppy dog. The term is often used in a derogatory fashion, describing emotions which are shallow and transient in comparison to other forms of love such as romantic love."

I have to admit that I did not handle it well that caused alot of heartaches in the latter day... I have to apologize to many people for that and I sincerely do...
It is all "under the carpet now", it is nothing important now... However, when this happened, this 'stupid bear' do received many supports...thank you.

The self discovery

How to solve all these problems that been piling up in your life recently? It is not an easy task. This is because we know that there are so many roads ahead, and which is the right road to be taken and which is the road less taken?

I am in one of the dilemma right now... I just took some quiz on the web and it seemeed that I have some depression problem... but first of all what is depression? This is a short excerpt from WebMD that defined depression:

Everyone at one time or another has felt depressed, sad, or blue. Being depressed is a normal reaction to loss, life's struggles, or an injured self-esteem. But sometimes the feeling of sadness becomes intense, lasting for long periods of time and preventing a person from leading a normal life. Depression that has these characteristics is a treatable medical condition called major depressive disorder, one of a number of depressive illnesses. Types of depression include: Major depression, chronic depression (dysthymia), bipolar depression, and seasonal depression (seasonal affective disorder or SAD).

According to a report from the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly 18.8 million Americans over the age of 18 suffer from major depression. Suicide, closely linked to depression, is the third leading cause of death in 10- to 24-year-olds. Unfortunately, most people never seek treatment. Left undiagnosed and untreated, depression can worsen, lasting for years and causing untold suffering, and possibly even result in suicide.
What Are the Symptoms of Depression?

These are some of the signs and symptoms of depression that you should be aware of:

* Sadness
* Loss of enjoyment from things that were once pleasurable
* Loss of energy
* Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness
* Difficulty concentrating
* Difficulty making decisions
* Insomnia or excessive sleep
* Stomachache and digestive problems
* Sexual problems (for example, decreased sex drive)
* Aches and pains (such as recurrent headaches)
* A change in appetite causing weight loss or gain
* Thoughts of death or suicide
* Attempting suicide

Well, I have several of the major symptoms...and again the solution is to do more exercises.

I am making more self discovery about myself and I hope that solving this problem will make me a better man.

The future of the company

I am looking at the cloud that been dangling on my mind regarding the future of my company... where should I go from here? It is not an easy question to be answered because we know the phrase "you have to ask the right question" for the answer to be there...

The earning from last month was pretty impressive, but I really hope the momentum will be there... but the demands from each sides really killing me and it is not an easy thing to keep the urges and pressure down.

The dreadful taste of being fat

I have been called fat boy from a time that I can't remembered when... and I will be 30 years old next year, and I am thinking of losing alot of weight where my waist size can be the 34" that I have when I was in the States. My current waist size is 40. And this will be a tough battle, but with my new determination, I believe I can win.

My brother have taste the dreadful taste when he has spine problem. The first doctor told him that he has to have surgery... fortunately when we took him to consult another doctor, his comment is: you are too fat, and that is the cause of your pain. He was right, his weight has ballooned for the 20kg for 2 years time... no thanks to his girl friend. Yes, guys you have to be very careful because your girl friends will be one of the contributor of your weight. Remember the situation such as: I can't eat that much or Can you finished my portion and etc.???

I was thinking of this dreadful question when I was sleeping this morning... can I really lose the extra 20kg by myself?

I am a bit worry now...

The Christmas of 2006

I am working in the office and the company is running...no I am not Uncle Scrooge or something but again, I needed to rethink the direction of the company for the year 2007. Many times in life, we have to do some sacrifices because life is really like that and we can't denied it. At this hour, I really missed America because of the festive atmosphere that you can feel and certainly not in Malaysia.

Went to the bachelor party last Saturday...well it is fun because the call gal is kind of cute, but as far it goes, we only do some hanky panky. But, the worst thing is, you received another friend's wedding invitation card.

I have to call my mom in USA later.

The November Entry

Yesterday was the last day of November, 2006. A lot of fond memories because I just opened another company and one of my old school mates got married. Going to be uncles to several friend's children... and why these $R%$%#^%$@$ making us feel so old? Really, I am just 28 years old, and all these people are asking when are you getting married? And I will just honestly replied, aisheh, no gal friends yet, but frankly it is NYOB !@#$%^&*... Phew, these guys are killing me. But to make it worst, I got so drunk at my friend's wedding, my friends have to send me home. (After 25 glasses of beers and 6 glasses of double shots of whisky...and I was lucky I did not been send to the hospital for alcohol poisoning). Anywhere, it is a crazy month and I know that next month will be bad because it will be triple the loads... GOD SAVE THE POLAR BEAR!!!

The movies that I watched past three days...

The Banquet

Hate to say it, but it is basically a movie which is a adapting of Shakespeare Macbeth... so it is really good for us? The answer is no. You basically felt that, what the hell! What they trying to prove here? I think if fellow Shakespeare friends will basically have the same thought... the creativity is zero. I will not explain the story because if you knows Macbeth you will basically knows how the story lines go.

Daisy

Don't be fool by the title of the movies... this movie is not those Korean Soap Opera or something equivalent... it is a pretty good movie and I will recommended for couples... self sacrifice and finding the true love... I don't like to spoil the fun, so watch it if you have the movie.
