Are we rude?

Survey: KL Courtesy level has risen

THE nation’s capital has redeemed itself in terms of courtesy level after a shocking readers' poll last year by Reader’s Digest which labelled Kuala Lumpur as the third rudest city in the world, Kosmo! reported.

The latest survey conducted by Canadian-based international rating agency Aneki.com found that Kuala Lumpur was the 33rd most polite city in the world.

New York topped the list, followed closely by Zurich and Toronto. The first of its kind, the study involved 35 cities and was done in collaboration with the United Nations and the US Central Intelligence Agency.

However, the capitals of several Malaysia neighbours fared better.

Manila stood at 22nd place while Bangkok was placed 25th, followed by Jakarta, Indonesia (27th) and Singapore (31st). Kuala Lumpur, however, beat Bucharest and Mumbai.

The Reader’s Digest’s controversial poll last year was based on simple basic manners such as opening the door for others, picking up items which have been accidentally dropped by people and smiling when serving customers. "

From the argument that I have with my friend, is 'YES'. She emphasized that she met with these rude people daily. I have another friend, who happened to be an air stewardess beg to differ. So, both of them have a good point. I have to agree and to disagree at the same time. This is because how many Malaysian guys open door for their gals? Second question is, do we evaluate Malaysian from this few criterias? The reason is we may evaluate them based on other's people cilture and not our cultures.

"Rudeness" is very subjective. If according to your stewardess friend who concluded that msians aren't rude COMPARED to singaporeans she'd met, then better I go and find the RUDEST city on earth, compare KL to it, then conclude that KL ppl are angels.
You get what I mean?

As we put it, rudeness is a very subjective matter, because he or she maybe rude to you, but in other situation you can said that he or she is just playing with you.

And also as I said earlier, when you are looking at what kind of tools that they used to measure the degree of 'rudeness' of Malaysians, we have to say ' it is a bit unfair of doing that' because it is not our cultures.

Anywhere, I have to thank you for the input because this argument will be ended by a never ending subject.
